Frequently Asked Questions
What is Japanese English Toastmasters (JETs)?
JETs is a bilingual, public-speaking club, a local chapter of the global organization, Toastmasters
International. Our core activity is to improve our members' public speaking skills by delivering and
evaluating speeches in both English and Japanese.

When and where are the meetings?
Meetings are twice a month. Please see the "location and schedule" section of this web page for
current times and locations.

What are the members like?
Of our two dozen or so members, approximately half are Americans and half are Japanese. Our
members come from a variety of professions and we also have many students.

Any requirements to join? Like being bilingual?
Anyone can join with the approval of the club. Your Japanese doesn't need to be perfect, but you
should feel comfortable communicating in it. Please remember we are a speech club -- not a
Japanese language instruction class.

How much will it cost to join?
For new members, there is an initial membership fee of $21.55 including tax. Regular dues are
$33 every 6 months.
Here is more information on how to join.

Can I visit and sit in on meetings?
Of course! We'd love to have you as our guest. For more information, please send an e-mail to
sf_jets_club@yahoo.com.  Either
Tamao Horiguchi (VP Public Relations) for club information or
Junko Takeuchi (VP Membership) for membership information will be in touch with you shortly.
